A Guide to the Differences Between Ventilation Methods

A ventilation method refers to how the hairs of the hair system are attached to its base. But what’s the difference between them, and does it matter? Let’s find out.

In the description of a hair system on any given sellers website, you will almost always see a reference to the ventilation method that was used. That may sound meaningless to you, but it can make a big difference on the hair system itself and by extension you. So here in this short article our aim is to educate you on the various kinds of ventilation methods used and what the differences between them are. In total, there are six common methods that are used.

1.The Single Split Knot Method
A method characterized by its comfort and ease of combing, it is often used at the part of the hair system that is connected to the persons own hair giving it a rather seamless blended look. However, because it is so seamless it can be somewhat fragile, though its also extremely breathable

2. The Single Flat Knot Method
The first method we will take a look at is the single flat knot method. The primary characteristic of this method is that the knot is exceptionally small. So much so, that it’s practically invisible to the naked eye. As such, it is used in some of the most realistic looking bases such as the thin skin or poly base.
This method does have a drawback though, which is that it becomes brittle if the knots are bleached. Also combing it too often or too vigorously will cause shedding.

3.The Double Split Knot Method
Most commonly, this method is used on the top of single layer nets. It’s characteristics include being fluffy, affixing firmly to the base, being resistant to falling off, and being suitable for a heavier or thicker hairstyle.
Unfortunately, because the knot itself is bigger it is also fairly obvious to the naked eye. So, the only real choice with this method is to have a longer hairstyle, and not trim it too close to the base.

4.The Double Flat Knot Method
The double flat knot method adds an extra single knot to the first single knot, which means there are two single knots tied together. The benefit of using this method is that it is very strong and doesn’t change directions easily. It is primarily used on the sides and back of most hair systems as this keep the hair from puffing up after a good nights sleep; I.e it prevents bed head. Hence, the reason many people choose a hair system that uses this method.

5.The V-loop Method
This method is predominantly used in the thin skin or poly systems. This technique actually involves no knots whatsoever, and instead the hair is needled through the base in such a way that it resembles a small V. After the hair is threaded through, another layer of silicone material is added on top to fix the root in place. The benefit of this method is that since there is no knot, there is also a very realistic look.

6. Lift Injection Method
The most complex process by far, this method involves directly planting the hair into the base and then adding another layer of silicone on top. Because of its complexity, it also takes longer to make these kinds of hair systems and the price reflects that as well.
